Terms for using ShiftyMechanics

These Terms of Use govern access to shiftymechanics.com and its repair-cost calculator, guides and related content.

1. Agreement to these terms

By accessing or using ShiftyMechanics (the “Site”), you agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy page. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

2. What the Site provides

ShiftyMechanics provides general repair-cost information to help vehicle owners understand and compare workshop quotes. Estimates may include indicative parts prices, labour-time ranges and country-level independent-workshop labour rates.

The Site does not provide a diagnosis, inspection, fixed quote, guarantee of price, mechanical instruction or professional advice. Actual work and cost can vary because of the vehicle's condition, specification, location, parts availability, workshop rates, taxes and additional faults found during inspection.

3. Your responsibilities and safety

You are responsible for confirming your vehicle details, obtaining a proper diagnosis and checking the scope and price of work directly with a qualified repairer before authorising repairs. Do not rely on the Site for emergency or safety-critical decisions. If a vehicle may be unsafe, stop driving when it is safe to do so and seek qualified assistance.

4. Permitted use

You may use the Site for your own lawful, personal purposes, including checking an individual repair estimate and sharing a normal Site link. No other licence or right is granted except with ShiftyMechanics' prior written permission.

5. No data scraping or automated collection

You must not, without prior written permission from ShiftyMechanics:

• use any robot, spider, crawler, scraper, script, browser automation, agent, AI system or other automated process to access, monitor, query, copy, download, index or extract Site content or data;
• systematically collect repair estimates, pricing, labour times, parts information, vehicle and repair combinations, guide content, page content or any other Site dataset, whether by automated or coordinated manual means;
• make bulk or repeated requests, reproduce the Site's database, or use Site content or data to build, benchmark, operate or improve a competing or commercial repair-cost product or service;
• use Site content or data to train, fine-tune, evaluate, ground or supply an artificial-intelligence or machine-learning system;
• sell, license, publish or distribute a dataset derived from the Site; or
• bypass or evade robots.txt instructions, access controls, request limits, security measures or other technical restrictions, including by disguising request origins or rotating accounts, identifiers or network addresses.

This restriction does not prevent ordinary search-engine indexing that follows the Site's robots.txt instructions, displays only brief search-result snippets and links users back to the Site. Any other exception must be approved in writing by ShiftyMechanics.

6. Other prohibited conduct

You must not interfere with the Site or another person's use of it; attempt unauthorised access; introduce malicious code; probe or test vulnerabilities without written permission; misrepresent Site information or your relationship with ShiftyMechanics; or use the Site in a way that infringes another person's rights or breaks the law.

7. Intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, the Site's branding, design, text, calculation logic, selection and arrangement of information, repair guides and original content belong to ShiftyMechanics or its licensors and are protected to the extent provided by law. Third-party names, marks and content remain the property of their respective owners.

8. External links and services

The Site may link to Google Maps, advertisers, sponsors or other third-party services. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices. ShiftyMechanics does not control them and is not responsible for their availability, content, products or services. A link does not necessarily mean ShiftyMechanics endorses the third party.

9. Availability and changes

ShiftyMechanics may correct, update, suspend or withdraw any part of the Site at any time. The Site may occasionally be unavailable or contain errors, and uninterrupted or error-free access is not promised.

10. Statutory rights and liability

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including rights that may apply under the Australian Consumer Law.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”. ShiftyMechanics is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from use of, or reliance on, the Site, its estimates or third-party links. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited only to the extent permitted by law.

11. Breach of these terms

If you breach these terms, ShiftyMechanics may restrict or block your access, remove permission to use Site content and take other reasonable steps to protect the Site, its data and its rights.

12. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated by publishing a revised version on this page and changing the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Site after an update means the revised terms apply to your later use.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia and the Commonwealth of Australia. You and ShiftyMechanics submit to the courts of Western Australia and the Commonwealth courts that may hear matters there. Mandatory laws in your location may also apply.
